User Notification E-mails should include username and e-mail subject.

Good-day Team,

 

i have a request that in the e-mails that are sent back to the users after violating a policy, please to include their username and the subject of the e-mail that triggered the policy. 

 

***************************************************************************

Example:

Dear "Username"

The e-mail "Subject" has been blocked due to XYZ violation....... 

***************************************************************************

 


MAX_BUFFER_SIZE negative value

Websense 7.1, ISA 2006, SQL 2005

On one of my instances, the BCP files are building up, the database will not roll over and the MAX_BUFFER_SIZE value constantly goes to a negative, even if I set it to positive.

When trying to manually roll over the DB, I get

USP_ETL_DRIVER(): Saved INCOMINGBUFFER_OFFLINE content

in the log.

Any help will be appreciated.

Why Investigaive Report shows duplicated userid?

When performing investigative report filtering by userid I receive in "Select User" box several lines (sometimes 3 or 4 lines), for the userid being searched. These lines are about the same user indeed but when selecting one by one we can see different reports about the same user.  Could someone explain why this happens?

Exclude a range of IPs from Cisco ASA.

I know I can exclude a specific IP address from being filtered on the ASA, but is there a way to exclude a range of addresses?  i.e. all of my servers.

 

Any help would be much appreciated.

Old DC Showing

Recently we just noticed that old dc is showing up when choose a client to apply a policy to. We have been using a new DC for some time now and the settings are properly configured within Directory Services.

When we choose an OU to apply a policy the edit client shows as our old dc (which has been retired for over a year). This is not particular to a specific client.

For example, it shows:
Client : LDAP://OLDDC.DOMAIN.COM OU=CLIENT,DC=CONTOSO,DC=COM instead of LDAP://NEWDC.DOMAIN.COM OU=CLIENT,DC....

Any fixes or suggestions to fix this?

Computer Hostname in Reporting

It would be nice if viewing the computer Hostname could be included in reporting.  This has been asked by several customers and makes complete sense in todays DHCP environment.

Our Websense Email Security expired recently and as a result all rules ceased to function. Is this correct i would have expected those rules that were not depending on spam updates would continue to function.


Cloud web security registration mail not receiving

I and some of my colleagues registered in websense. Now we tried to get register with cloud web security. we used the pac file in browser setting and when we tried to open internet it asked for registration i.e to provide name and email. We have given that. 2 among us have received the mail from bounce@websense.com to continue with registration but others 5 did not. What could be the reasons?

Releasing emails caught by lexical rules - via PEM only?

Hi all,

Hopefully just a quickie...  Do users have to use PEM to release emails?  We have a need for users to release emails captured and quaranteed by Lexical rules. 

When testing I noticed I could run my message report and see the offending emails with a release button.  Clicking this brought up another screen (where I could view the email) but also said "The recipient of this message has not been allowed to release messages."

I checked the lexical rule again to make sure it allows users to view and release these emails.  So the question is, is it something else overidding this release option I have missed or is it because I am not using PEM?

Applying multiple policies to a user in 7.7.3

Hi,

I have three policies set up in websense - each tied to an AD group, with varying levels of internet access between them, however, they all block a particular category (which is what I want).

The need has arisen to allow some users to access URLs in this category on a temporary basis, so I created an additional policy allowing access to this and tied it to another AD group - the hope being that dropping the user in to the group in addition to the existing one would allow them access to this category, however this doesn't seem to be the case. The user still gets blocked, despite test filtering showing that they should be allowed.

Clearing the user directory cache, logging the user out and back in etc. all have no effect. What have I done wrong here? Is there a better way of allowing users temporary access to certain categories of URL?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Currently, there are options to choice, pre-definied strings to sent to SIEM, but there are limitations.

 

The costumer would like to choice, which categories (per id) data to sent to SIEM.

How do I Allow Business Webmail service from GMail but not personal?

We currently use google as our email provider for our business email and management has asked me to block all webmail with the exception of gmail.  I was going to try whitelist gmail.com and mail.google.com but it appears that most of the time when the users access these sites they come across as IP addresses.  I began allow these addresses as I could find them but this seems like a very long and tedious process and isn't working very well.  Is there a way to fix this so my users can get to gmail and not other webmail sites like yahoo etc.?

Enhance the backup process and improve security for Websense v7.7

Dear Websense,

Please could you look to make the backup process more seamless and replace the protocols in use to something more secure, i.e. SFTP, FTPS or Windows authentication.

After a recent installation and reading your backup procedure, it would be good if multiple component backups required where merged into a single process.  FTP is also being offered to transfer configuration to a remote host for the Content Gateway. FTP transmits data in clear text, including username and password. Any company performing internal IT health checks will have this marked as a risk.

Please could reporting have options to included data from AD, like department name or location.

This would make sorting users in reports with Excel a lot easier.

Internet browse times and 'news ticker' type websites

Hi all,

I had a quick question about internet browse time reports when a user has a website open that is periodically polling a server every few minutes. It produces browse times such as 8+ hours in a normal working day.

I understand why this is, as per IBT calculations described here: http://www.websense.com/support/article/t-kbarticle/Internet-Browse-Time-Reports-How-do-they-work, and so the report is technically 'correct', but it does mask a users true browsing behaviour. Is there anyway to filter this type of traffic from the report, or is there any feature or update that may deal with this as is skews reports?

I'm trying to use my SurfControl until I can get the new Websense configured as we are changing hardware that Websense will be installed on. Can I do this or will I have to use the SurfControl as "Uncategorized"?

Websense, worst customer support?

We have been using Websense for two years now, thankfully our contract will soon be up for renewal.  Technical and customer support is by far the worst of any service company I currently deal with.   Initial responses from support staff are inadequate, effectively emailing you to say they have the problem noted.  Then nothing for days at a time.  We currently have a case which has had no response from Websense for twenty five days.  Is that acceptable?

We are using the V5000G2 appliance, and each patch release is worse than the last.  I have never been able to successfully get a patch installed without it breaking other parts of the product or requiring several remote sessions to get it working.   It’s not good enough for the price you pay 

Websense is an overcomplicated product which is disjointed and difficult to manage.  It requires a lot of internal support hours to have it running effectively.  There are very few technical consultants with Websense that I have worked with which are actually knowledgably about the product and able to support it well.  Often the support consultant expects you to know the product inside out, I’m sorry but this is why we pay for support!

I would not be happy recommending Websense to anyone and it will be difficult to be persuaded to stick with this product.
