Authentication Failure Logs

We have websense as our proxy server which used users's active directory accounts to authenticate. There are quite a few users' active directory accounts being locked out and our domain controllers are reporting our proxy server as being the source, which is quite understandable.

However, the security log on the proxy doesnt show any authentication failures, so i guess my question is, does Websense log authentication, whether its sucessful or denied?

I've looked through most of the websense web inteface but with no joy

Currently we can define on Data Security on the Resources->Endpoint Devices a "device name" for the removable media. This option is not enough, since we can only define a name of some very large number of USB devices, and not serial numbers. We would like to see an option on Websense DLP that will allow to define a list of trusted USB stick Serial Numbers and a list of local USB printers SNs.

"Policy server not found" with new installation

Hello:

We are installing a new instance of Websense Web Filter 7.8.2 for our environment in order to migrate from 7.1.  We're installing on Windows Server 2012 64-bit.  I have two virtual servers set up, the first (as recommended by the installation guide) has the Policy Server, Policy Broker, and Filtering services running.  On the second virtual server I've installed Triton and now trying to install the additional Linking Service component.  When the installer prompts for the Policy Server, I enter in the IP however it keeps coming back with the error "Policy server not found. Make sure the policy server is running...".  I verified that the Policy Server is running on port 55806 and I can telnet to that port just fine (connects and doesn't show anything.. but does connect).  So I'm not sure what else can be done in order to troubleshoot this.  Are there any additional things we can check in order to get this to proceed with the install???  Thanks in advance....

When adding a client IP or unblocking a website (some URL's are IP addresses), it would be nice to be able to add a description so when auditing the changes at a later date the numbers make sense and do not require lookups or head scratching.

I want the ability for reports to automatically be sent to end users when specific criteria has been met.

For example: If my browsing history shows that 10% of my internet usage has been social media, then an email would be sent to me. This would be useful so that end users know where they stand. It would help make users more responsible for themselves.

syndication.twitter.com...skewing reports for actual Twitter access

Hello all

 

Our users reports are are clocking up heavy usage for the URL syndication.twitter.com and this is being reported under the category 'SocialWeb - Twitter'

 

I believe that all or the majority of this usage is a result of viewing a non Twitter web page that contains a Twitter feed on the page, and it's this Twitter feed that is clocking up the usage.  Of course to the user, in most cases they are unaware of this and then wonder why hours of usage is recorded for them accessing Twitter.

Therefore, I'm thinking of recategorising this out of 'personal use' reports, but wanted advice of whether by recategorising this I would lose any detail in the reports for actual Twitter browsing?

When upgrading our V5000 G2 appliance I am getting the following error:

•ERROR:disk space checking failed: the free disk space of domain wcg (7674160 K) does not meet the patch requirements (2097152 K)

It seems to me that 7gb is more than the required 2gb right?

Bandwidth utilization report

Hi,

We would like to  have a proxy bandwidth utilization report. We have Lync and Office365 (Online mode) in place and where we suspect some bandwidth choke is happening, that's the reason we have to check some bandwidth utilization report. Along with the threshold checking like what is bandwidth provided to us. Is there an easy way to generate such report.

After upgrading (non-appliance) from 7.6.2 to 7.8.1 I see a version mismatch in the the version numbers.  What am I missing here (other than my mind)??

New installation WebFilter v7.1 - How to disable filtering (Backup Plan)

I am planning out a new installation of Web Sense Web Filter v7.1 on one of my domain controllers running Active Directory. The HW specs barely meet requirements on this already slightly busy server. I need to have a backup plan if after the installation I am having problems, short of un-installing.

I have searched but have not found steps to follow to disable WebSense Web Filter. Is it as simple as disabling all WebSense services?

Upgrade from Windows 2003 with webfilter 7.5 to Windows 2008 R2 webfilter 7.8.1

Hello,

I have an all in one installation of WebFilter 7.5 on a Windows 2003. I want to upgrade to a new server with Webfilter 7.8.1 and Windows 2008 R2. Below is my plan for the upgrade.  Help and comments are greatly appreciated.

On the current server

Step 1) upgrade 7.5 to 7.6.7

Step 2) backup configuration and DB for version 7.6.7

On a new server

Step 3) install Windows 3008 R2 and webfilter 7.6.7

Step 4) restore webfilter config and DB from backup

Step 5) upgrade webfilter 7.6.7 to 7.8.1


webs ecurity network agent installation in windows server 2012

Each time, when I tried to install network agent in windows server 2012, i got a fatal error- blue screen. any hints will be appreciated.

enviroment:

- a brand new dell poweredge r620 with a clean windows server 2012 GUI installation with latest fix packs

- Web Security v7.8.2

i have tried to:

- update network adapter firmware to the latest

- updare nework driver to the latest

but it did not work.

Classifying an incident requires 2 steps

When classifying an incident, there are 2 steps required

(1) assign the incident

(2) Classify the incident i.e. State change

 

Would it be possible to automatically assign the incident when an Unassigned incident is being classified i.e. state change ?

I have a couple of different polices.  If I want to open say drive.google,com only for say my Executive policy how do I do that?  I know I can add an exception per user but I would like to do it per policy.

 

Cannot install 7.6 log server due to db connection errors

I have installed Websense 7.6 at 3 seperate locations without problems. I have a SQL 2005 express SP4 instance SQLEXPRESS when I try to install I receive the error "Websense reporting tools do not work with the version of SQL you hve installed."

I also have a freshly installed 2008 express R2 instance SQLEXPR2008 when I try to install to this instance I receive "Unable to connect to SqlServer located at:"

I looked at the KB articles:

However when I run EXEC sp_helpserver it is reporting the correct servername\instancename so I do not want to blow that away since it is configured correctly. I need help, this project is due tonight and I am completely stuck!

Very poor support by websense

The below is my mail to websense.  Still they cant resolve the issue, i will be switching to new product soon

I have spent almost 5 to 6 hour of my time with the various support team for the resolution and nothing achieved till. And I am sure it is a software issue the upgrade will resolve I am sure it is not a network related issue because nothing is changed in our network for the last one year and we don't have other issues in the network. I can see the troubleshooting sessions had lot of changes in many files and many settings files change and consumed more time. I am sure the upgrade will not take that much effort and time as a experienced support persons. Not sure what is the hesitations and risk and why it is not in the scope of support as we are eligible customer and it is your product. As a customer we are not expert in doing this and it will be difficult for us. Similar issue happened on our symantec antivirus server, and support team of symantec upgraded the software during the remote session based on our request and resolved the issue in one remote session within one hour time. I can send the symantec report to you if you want to know how others support is?  Why I am sayings this is I don't understand why websense is not doing this service to their customer. I am not happy at all the service of websense and the support is very poor in terms of my experience.  If you still not willing to help us and don't want us to use websens, please close this ticket and we will need to review our usage of wesense and might consider to switch to other vendor. They are ready to give their solution with competitor price. Note that since this bad experience, we might need to review our DLP solution to other vendor. No more explanation is required please close this ticket if you don't help us to upgrade our product remotely. I will forward all the corresponding upon the closing to the websense management and sales  for their understanding and for their future commitment to atleast other customers why thy can't do the remote upgrade service?
