Triton Manager wrong version after upgrading to 7.8.2

I upgraded my Websense infrastructure from 7.7.3 to 7.8.2 yesterday.  The upgrade went surprisingly well and I didn't have a single issue during the install.  After I was done I tested filtering and it was working properly, displaying our custom block pages, and filtering based on userid.  However, my last test was to have a look at the Triton GUI and make sure everything was configured properly.  The GUI wouldn't open and my browsers (tested IE and Firefox) just sat there spinning without loading the page.  I went for lunch and when I came back it was still spinning and not opening the GUI.

So I removed the Triton infrastructure to reinstalled it.  I got an error that one module would stop working but would remain installed (the Triton Manager).  After I reinstalled the Triton infrastructure, the GUI still wouldn't open.  So I unsinatlled and reinstalled the Triton manager.  After that everything worked great and all of my configuration was properly transferred to 7.8.  However, when I look in the new Deployment tab in the interface, it lists every component as 7.8.2 except for the Web Security Manager which is still saying it is 7.7.3???  I assume this is the Triton Manager?

I removed this module and reinstalled it using the 7.8 setup files (I don't even have the 7.7.3 setup on the server any more).  Does anyone have any idea why my reinstalled Triton Manager is still saying it is the old version when I installed it using the 7.8 setup files?  It is also the only component (other than Policy Broker and Server) that does not have a link to stop (or start) in the Deployment page.  Thanks in advance for your help.

WebSense blackspider authentication windows pops up when forwarding an e-mail

Hello,

My user in marketing received an e-mail that looks like a coupon (html format, or css). The marketing user forwarded the same e-mail to a sales user.

The sales user opened the e-mail and wrote a response. As soon as the sales user clicks a Send button, he is prompted to authenticate against the WebSense ...blackspider.websense proxy. Authenticating using e-mail + domain pswd does not make the authentication window go away. My admin level privileges don't make the authentication box go away either. His outlook 2010 loops between clicking cancel and trying to authenticate. The only way to close everything down and end the loop is to end-task the Outlook process in task manager. This only happens with e-mails that have the same format

However, the e-mail is sent to everyone he replied to with his comments as if there were no issues. Anybody know how can I investigate this...I'm kind of stuck trying to figure out where to start.

P.S. I do not have access to the original html/css email and its headers...I only have my copy which is local to domain so the headers are blank.

Thank you in advance for any insight or help you may be able to lend.

Is there a way to roll back the deploy of Triton 7.8.2 on windows ?  This deploy has caused an issues where one of my network agents will not longer start properly.  I have tried the various fixes for getting a network agent to respond and be able to attach to the console but nothing seems to work.

Web Endpoint & Windows 8 and 8.1

I find that in my Cloud Web Security portal that version 1145 is the most recent version available (1.4.7.6.1145) and the Release Notes do not mention explicitly supporting Windows 8 or 8.1 (but there is a mention that "…endpoint does not support Windows 8 Metro apps…")  Which seems to indicate that there may be some level of support on Windows 8.

Page 3 of 1145 Release notes do explicitly note:

Supported operating systems

Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or higher (32-bit and 64-bit)

Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 or higher (32-bit and 64-bit)

  Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)

My question is are there folks out there with 8 or more specifically 8.1 running with Web endpoint?

Multiple Block pages for different users

I am currently migrating users from SurfControl to Websense 7.0 and I'd like to know if I can create multiple Block Pages for different users.  I have a group of users that I want to block access completely too and present a block page with an acceptable use policy.  Other users would get a 'normal' block page depending on the site being blocked.

With Surfcontrol I was able to create multiple Block pages and assign them to individual disallow rules.

Thanks, Tony

I struggled to push myself to renew websense but I will not make that mistake next time

There is nothing worse than spending good money on a poor product. What's even worse than that is having to keep throwing more money at that poor product. I will not make that mistake again. After this contract is up I will not be using a websense product anymore. Support is worse than Microsoft support. And we all know how bad that is.

Simplify deployment into security zoned networks by tunneling traffic over a single port

Websense uses a multiplicity of ports, many of which are poorly documented.  It would be much simpler if there was one Websense service that acted as a broker for server-to-server communications so that all communications could tunnel over one Websense port and the network broker service could then split out the individual component traffic locally on the host.

You can achieve something similar with SSH tunnelling if you have a pure Linux deployment (which you won't because TRITON USC is Windows only) or IPsec if you have a pure Windows deployment (which you won't because CG and ESG is Linux only).  So having Websense provide the cross-platform mechanism for tunnelling all the various connections across one port would greatly assist us.

Oh, and support deployments of Websense components behind a NAT!  Includes WS and DS products.

Support for Cisco IOS Zone Based Firewall

I would like to suggest that full support for the Cisco IOS Zone Based Firewall be included for the Websense Web Security product.  The filtering works, however, logging does not and the answer back from support was that ZBF is not fully supported.  Logging is supported with the traditional IOS firewall, however, Cisco is moving toward the Zone Based Firewall and may eliminate the traditional firewall at some point.  Please take this into consideration.

Upgrade path from Websense Email Security 6.1.1

Hi All,

We are using Websense Email Security 6.1.1 on Windows 2003.

We want to upgrade to 7.3 on a newer OS.  When I read the documentation, the most recent OS supported is Windows Server 2008 SP2.

Does anyone knows if it can run on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 ?

Since we want to upgrade the OS also, we don't want to upgrade on the same server.

To go from 6.1.1 to 7.3, we need to pass by version 7.1.

If we install 7.1 on the new server with the latest OS, can we export/import settings from the old server ?  When all of our settings will be installed in the new server with 7.1, we'll perform an in-place upgrade to 7.3.

Thank you for your help,

Dominic

User Authentication issues/questions

We are having problems with transparent user authentication. Some users are getting the default policy instead of the policy that the should be getting based on AD security group membership. This only seems to be happening with laptops that are taken home at night, then docked again in the morning. Or, if they are un-docking and moving around the building then docking again. If I have the users turn off their wireless, then reboot and log in again it sometimes works.

We are currently only using the DC agent installed on our policy server. Should I also install the Logon Agent on the policy server as well? Could that help resolve the issue? My other thought is to enable  manual authentication as the Additional Authentication Option? It is currently set to computer or network policy.

Any help would be appreciated!

OS not supported? Server 2008 R2...

Hello,

Trying to install Web Security to Windows Server 2008 R2 machine.  In the Triton Infrastructure Setup window, I get the following:

"WARNING: Websense software is not supported on this operating system.  Refer to the Websense Deployment Guide for more information."

The Deployment Guide says the following:

"Typically, the TRITON management server is a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine."

Anyone have any ideas as to why I would be getting a "not supported" message on a machine that is "typical" of what is used?  Is there an update or something that I need to apply?

32GB RAM, 400+GB free disk space

Thanks,

Mike

Whenever I stop services and then restart them, all user policies go to default until I restart domain controllers

I do not want to have to restart DC's every time I need to restart Websense services, but when I do stop the services then start them up again, the users get default policy permissions. Once the DC's and the Websense server is restarted then policies go back to normal. I have a WS 7.5 installation that does this. I cannot upgrade at this time.

Here is the sequence used to stop services, I am wondering if ALL of these really need to be stopped

net stop "Websense Network Agent"

net stop "Websense Filtering Service"

net stop "Websense User Service"

net stop "Websense Policy Server"

net stop "Websense Policy Broker"

net stop "Websense Policy Database"

net stop "Websense DC Agent"

net stop "Websense Explorer Report Scheduler"

net stop "Websense Information Service for Explorer"

net stop "Websense Log Server"

net stop "Websense Reporter Scheduler"

net stop "Websense Usage Monitor"

Here is the start sequence

net start "Websense Policy Database"

net start "Websense Policy Broker"

net start "Websense Policy Server"

net start "Websense User Service"

net start "Websense Filtering Service"

net start "Websense Network Agent"

net start "Websense DC Agent"

net start "Websense Explorer Report Scheduler"

net start "Websense Information Service for Explorer"

net start "Websense Log Server"

net start "Websense Reporter Scheduler"

net start "Websense Usage Monitor"

Reports longer than a month

Websense cloud security currently does not have the feature to report against a user for longer than a month. Is there a way we can get this feature added either for 6 months or a year. If we need to report against a user for investigation a months data is useless, can this be added. It was on Websense on premise solution.

URL remapping in the cloud

Short question: Can we remap a URL in the cloud?

Background.

Cloud Web Security Gateway install

If the customer types acme.org into his browser local DNS resolves this to an Internal DC, if however he types www.acme.org he hits the external facing Acme site, which is the desired outcome.

This is fixed on the Content Gateway using the URL remapping function, but I can’t see a way to replicate this in the cloud.

Thanks
