I have to migrate the my old websense server version 6.3 to new version 7.x please help me to do this. How do I can import polices and export the same to new version server.
We have data in the form of imagery (i.e. seismic images, well log graphs, etc.) that we would like to "fingerprint" and then monitor for data loss. These images may have no metadata, so traditional forms of data loss prevention are ineffective. DSS already has the capability to look at images for skin tones, so I'm hoping this request is not out of the realm of possibility.

Our Dir Sync wasn't syncing correctly for quite some time due to duplicates and it failing on upload.
The duplicates were cleared and the upload worked okay but all of our users that were already in the portal with their email addresses and NTLM ids seem to have been modified.
Now when you look at them under end users all their addresses are now saying @3001-3697-nosuchdomain.autoregistration.proxy whereas before they were all @domainname.com . If I look at the users it still says that it is Portal-Managed ?
The email address is populated correctly in AD so I don't know why it has done this, however it has stopped all the exceptions working as these were based on email?
Any suggestions would be great

It can filter with the Windows credentials but I want to filter with the computer name which is on my Active Directory. Is it possible ?

The TRITON - Web Security service on 7.6.7 refuses to start after an update to websense. I've applied the EIM server hotfix but to no avail. The service just bombs out as soon as I start it - since it is down, I cannot access the filter to change any settings.

We are preparing to upgrade from Web Filter 7.1.1 to 7.8. The 7.8 server will be a new server since 7.1.1 server is 32 bit and since 7.8 requires 64 bit.
Can I migrate the polices and settings from 7.1.1 to the new 7.8 server? Or do we still have to from 7.1.1 then to 7.6 before going to 7.8?
Either way, where in the upgrade path do we move the SQL 2005 DB to SQL 2012? Can we go straight from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012?
How do we point the Websense sever to the new SQL DB server when the DB is moved?

This may more be related to the DC than websense but I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
Initially when websense was deployed we used the domain administrator account, 'administrator' during installation and everything was working fine, there was no need to modify the configuration and add any servers under active directory (native mode). The password for the account was changed and they said they do it oftern so I asked them to copy the current administrator account and give it a new username called 'websene' and I had to go through and change the logon for the services that require it and after a reboot the services started fine.
However I was unable to add any users or groups to websense because it said it was unable to communicate with the domain controller. So I added the server under active directory (native mode) and tested the connection with the new administrator account 'websense' and it failed. I then asked then tried the original administrator account and it worked fine.
Is it that no other administrator accounts besides the default administrator account can work? Or is something just wrong with the new administrator account 'websense'? even though they just copied the original 'administrator' account to make it.
I am trying to install 7.8
current setup:
1) windows 2008 r2 64 bit
2) i also installed TMG2010 with SP2 rollup 4 (no problems)
3) I now try to install Websense Triton 7.8 and getting errors that the installa tion timed out. I have the file located on the local HDD. I have 24 gig of ram so i don't think that it is a local issue with mem utilization or HDD not enough space.
Any Ideas??

I'm fairly familiar with on-premise websense policies but am doing some new setup with the cloud product. I have seen several pieces of advice suggesting that in the cloud setup while it is possible to make multiple policies and assign different policies to different users / groups, as might be done with the old on premise websense setup, that this is actually not recommended. The recommendations I have seen are along lines of one in the forums earlier:
Websense Cloud is a little different. You will probably only have on policy then create "exceptions" to that Policy.IE. Rule one says "Nobody gets Facebook". Rule one exception says "Unless you're in the Marketing group, then you get Facebook". This is a little hard to explain. You might want to ask Websense for a demo for this.
Can anyone shed some light on _why_ this is a better way to do it in cloud - is there a specific benefit to having a single policy with user specific exceptions versus multiple policies assigned to users / groups as used to be done with web filter on premise?

I find that in my Cloud Web Security portal that version 1145 is the most recent version available (1.4.7.6.1145) and the Release Notes do not mention explicitly supporting Windows 8 or 8.1 (but there is a mention that "…endpoint does not support Windows 8 Metro apps…") Which seems to indicate that there may be some level of support on Windows 8.
Page 3 of 1145 Release notes do explicitly note:
Supported operating systems
Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or higher (32-bit and 64-bit)
Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 or higher (32-bit and 64-bit)
Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
My question is are there folks out there with 8 or more specifically 8.1 running with Web endpoint?
