Migration from web filter 7.6 to 7.8

I am in the process of moving from a physical 7.6 websense deployment to a virtual 7.8 deployment.

Can I just export the Filter config, software config, and log databases to my new servers?  Or will I need to upgrade the existing configs first before exporting?

Current config:

Server 2008r2 | SQL 2008r2 installed locally with Websense 7.6

New config:

Server 2012r2 with websense 7.8 | SQL cluster

And the upgrade process for going from 7.6 to 7.8 seems to refer to an in place upgrade.  I've I'm moving servers is this needed?
