Blocking Netflix streaming

I am trying to block Netflix streaming on our network. We have to allow the "Streaming Media" category so I am unable to block it by category.

I have a custom category setup for certain video sites that we do block but the problem I am having with Netflix is that is uses so many different hostnames.

netflix-027.vo.llnwd.net     

The numbers in the hostnames vary into the hundreds. I am also unable to block llnwd.net since we use Lime Light for various video streams.

Does anyone have an idea how I can block these URLs without having to list the hundreds of hostnames?

Went directly from 7.7.3 to 7.8.2

Hello,

I upgraded a v5000 g2 appliance from 7.7.3 directly to 7.8.2.  The device is not in use yet, but I didn't have any issues during the upgrade.  It wasn't until after that I noticed I should have gone to 7.8.1 first in the notes, although the patches were available on the device during 7.7.3, which is why I thought it was ok.

Has anyone done this, and had any problems?

Mimecast MSO blocked

Hi,

We have just installed Cloud Security and local Endpoints. It is now stopping our Mimecast service connecting to the cloud properly. I have entered the Outlook addin and task Mimecast uses to the bypass settings and added the mso4-uk.mimecast.com:443 cloud address as an exception. It is not working as of yet (it may filter through later) but I'm assuming there will be lots of people using the Websense/Mimecast cloud combo and was wondering if anyone had come across this before?

Websense Endpoint & Fiddler

Does anyone know how to allow Fiddler to work with Websense Endpoint?  I have a group of developers who use Fiddler as part of their job but it works by configuring a proxy on your browser so it can capture / view the website data.  Endpoint does not allow changes to be made to a system's internet settings, so how do we get Fiddler to work?

Ticket System needs to be Improved

Ticket system needs to be Improved, customers are unable to Log snaps with the email but allowed to add as an attachment, although if some websense engineer replied to the customer , email lost its Graphical pattern.

Hello,

Websense Web Filtering v.7.7.3 is running in integrated mode. Network Agent is installed on a physical machine monitoring  the network with 2 NICs. The OS is a Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2 64 bits with 24 Gb of RAM and 2 quad core processors running at 3.15 GHz. Number of seats is 2000. The physical machine resources are barely used as you can imagine.

Even so, NetwokAgent.exe is crashing a dozen time a day, but only during business hours, when people are working. No crashing during the nights and the week ends.

Last time, I was able to see the process crash when reaching around 2Gb of RAM. Can I suspect a faulty RAM module on the physical machine?

Some notes: the server is 64 bits, but the process is 32 bits. Also, Network Agent is used only to monitor bandwidth usage. Finally, this is a fresh install and the process has been crashing since the beginning.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Password override for specific category and protocol filters

Hello - there is no feature to set the password override on specific category's or protocol filters.  This would be nice to have in the event, for example...if we want to allow windows media protocol for a specific user or AD group, and then we set the password override feature on windows media. 

Now this specific group can access windows media with the password we provide, for just a set time period.

Triton Manager wrong version after upgrading to 7.8.2

I upgraded my Websense infrastructure from 7.7.3 to 7.8.2 yesterday.  The upgrade went surprisingly well and I didn't have a single issue during the install.  After I was done I tested filtering and it was working properly, displaying our custom block pages, and filtering based on userid.  However, my last test was to have a look at the Triton GUI and make sure everything was configured properly.  The GUI wouldn't open and my browsers (tested IE and Firefox) just sat there spinning without loading the page.  I went for lunch and when I came back it was still spinning and not opening the GUI. 

So I removed the Triton infrastructure to reinstalled it.  I got an error that one module would stop working but would remain installed (the Triton Manager).  After I reinstalled the Triton infrastructure, the GUI still wouldn't open.  So I unsinatlled and reinstalled the Triton manager.  After that everything worked great and all of my configuration was properly transferred to 7.8.  However, when I look in the new Deployment tab in the interface, it lists every component as 7.8.2 except for the Web Security Manager which is still saying it is 7.7.3???  I assume this is the Triton Manager? 

I removed this module and reinstalled it using the 7.8 setup files (I don't even have the 7.7.3 setup on the server any more).  Does anyone have any idea why my reinstalled Triton Manager is still saying it is the old version when I installed it using the 7.8 setup files?  It is also the only component (other than Policy Broker and Server) that does not have a link to stop (or start) in the Deployment page.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Adobe ID authentication with ADE

I have an employee that is needing to open an ebook. This ebook is downloaded as an acsm file. We have Adobe Digital Edition (ADE) associated in Windows to acsm files. The purpose of this file is to communicate with Adobe’s content server and register the ebook to your Adobe ID. This is where it breaks down and stops with an error message. I have gone as far as assigning this user to the "Permit All" policy which permits all categories and permits all protocols. Even after assignment to the permit all policy the user is unable to open the ebook. I then took the proxy out of the Internet settings to completely bypass Websense and the ebook loaded without error.

The error message that we receive in ADE is:

Unable to download
Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:
E_STREAM_ERROR 

We are using V5000 G2 running on version 7.8.1.

Has anyone else ran into this issue and if so what did you do to correct this issue?

Does Websense have any kind of a bypass that Adobe's authentication servers can be added to?

config.xml 'logging' container overwritten

OS: Server 2008 R2 - All servers

WS Version: Web Security 7.7.3

Server 1 (Main Site): Primary policy server/filtering server/Policy broker

Server 2 (Main Site): Log server/Triton WUI/

Server 3 (remote location): Secondary policy server/filtering

Server 4 (remote location): Secondary policy server/filtering

 

Server 3 and 4 are supposed to be sending log data to server 2 (They do not have local log servers).  Everything has been working fine until recently, on server 3 and 4, the 'logging' container in /bin/config.xml somehow got automatically modified to show 'localhost' instead of the correct logging server IP (Server 2).  Everything is correct in the WUI. I have switched to the secondary policy servers in Triton and the logging still points to the correct IP.  If I save settings in the WUI and restart services on server 3 and 4 things will start working again and config.xml will be updated with the correct IP for logging.  However, every couple days logging for those servers fails again and I look into the config.xml file again to see that the logging server has been set back to 'localhost' on servers 3 and 4. This has happened 2 to 3 times over the past two weeks.

 

No service restarts or failures are happening around the period that logging fails.

Has anyone experienced this issue or have some insight?  Any advice would be appreciated.  Please let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Cloud Email Security - Queue View

I would like an option in Cloud Email Security to view the queue of delayed/deferred emails, this would enable us to see any emails which are due to be delivered that might be suffering from communications issues

WS 7.5 loses connection to domain?

Have started seeing issues where the WS loses either the connection to, or the reprting for my users.  When opening the console, occassionally will see that all the is being recorded is traffic for "Administrator", and no one else.  Restarting the server fixes this problem for a few days before it happens again.

Event log and Websense.log entries are made.  The following is from the Websense.log file:

Warning,WebsenseUserService,User Service (Directory Service Component),WsNTDirService.cpp:124,0x20010001,EnumerateResource() got error 1208 from call to WNetOpenEnumW(). For resource Microsoft Windows Network. Extended error description The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available . Provider Microsoft Windows Network.

Server is a physical, Windows 2008-32bit server in a stand-alone configuration. 4GB ram.

The user created a exception to Google Docs, and works fine, but the URL it's always changing, and...blocking.

Blocking Netflix on Tablets and Smartphones

We are having an issue blocking Netflix streaming on our wireless network while on an Ipad or Iphone, strange thing is that everything is blocked while on an Android phone or tablet connected to our wireless network.  I have blocked a ton of netflix domains and even added some regular expressions but for some reason it gets right through when on an I device.  Any suggestions??

Unfiltered URL's Missing

After upgrading from 6.1 to 7.6 to 7.7 Web Security, our unfiltered URL's are missing.  I can't find them in the Exceptions tab under Policy Management.  Is there a way I can restore them?

Request: Perfect Forward Secrecy Support on WSG

There have been a number of recent news articles stating that web traffic can be intercepted and later decrypted, unless "Perfect Forward Secrecy" key exchange is supported (as it is by Gmail).

Hosted Web Security with Skype

Hello,

I have a problem with Hosted Web Security Gateway and Skype.

I have configured in policy->Access Control with "Always authenticate users on first access" and "NTLM transparent identification where possible". In connection I have configured my pubblic IP (outside NAT).



With this configuration my skype's software do not connect through the proxy probably because don't recognized the ntlm credentials.



How I can resolve this?
