Moving to New Hardware

Sorry, the post was blank after first editing it.

I have three questions regarding upgrading my Websense Installation. I currently have Triton and Web Filter 7.6.3 running on Server 2003 R2. I will be moving to new hardware on a Server 2008 R2 box with a different NetBIOS name.

I understand the backup and restore procedure and steps, but am a not sure what exactly happens during the restoration.

My first question is regarding log databases, they are currently housed on an external SQL instance. After restoring the configuration to the new server, will the new server point to the Log Database server automatically?

When Installing Websense 7.6.3 on the new hardware, do I simply choose the products currently installed, and then use "dummy" setup options as the configuration restore will overwrite everything, or do I have to clone my current installation settings? (I've never installed Websense before)

Lastly after restoring the configuration I assume I must offline my old server immediately to ensure the log databases do not get corrupted?

Cloud web security registration mail not receiving

I and some of my colleagues registered in websense. Now we tried to get register with cloud web security. we used the pac file in browser setting and when we tried to open internet it asked for registration i.e to provide name and email. We have given that. 2 among us have received the mail from bounce@websense.com to continue with registration but others 5 did not. What could be the reasons? 

Cloud WSG Reports to go back at Least 6 Months.

management with decision making. 

Increasing Character Limit

Citrix XenApp 6.5 Workarounds?

We are currently running WS 7.6 Standalone and have just introduced a Citrix XenApp 6.5 server in our environment and wanted to know if there are any available workarounds since WS doesn't support 6.5?

I have read were it maybe possible using a reverse proxy, if so does anyone have any general configuration information? What proxy would you recommend using? I would like to avoid using TMG since it has been discontinued. Thanks.

Hi,

 

We have requirements as below for reporting: We want to show to produce a report based on the below:

1) How many Security Risk Sites are blocked each month? (a count of sites not hits or requests)

2) How many Users blocked from Security Sites each month? (a count of users)

Could you evaluate and let us know when we could expect to hear back?

Private IP Addresses appear in reports

How can I tell Websense to ignore private ip addresses on our network? I have configured the Internal Network Definition under Settings\Network Agent\Global as 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255.

I check the Source Servers for Private IP Address traffic and it is the agents running on our Citrix servers and SQUID proxy.

If it has a private ip address I want Websense to ignore it and not show it in any logs or reports.


Realtime monitor and FQDN - Frustration

As per 000006039 (http://www.websense.com/support/article/kbarticle/Why-am-I-receiving-a-Real-Time-Monitor-Denied-Access-error-message), when will a hot-fix be available for this?

It is causing us much frustration as our policy is to use DNS and FQDN for access. 

Export Policies to readable format

Does anyone know of or have script that will convert the export of policies in Triton  into a readable format instead of the 17k plus lines. Any help will be much appreciated.

Uncategorize sites - semi automatic categorize process

Hello ,

I'm using Web Security build.7.6.2.1449 , I have blocked all Uncategorize sites thru policy.

I now that you can customize the block site page ,but can you set-it up so the user that receives the block site page can re-categorize the site?

I want users to have the option when they receive the block page for Uncategorize to have the option to select a category and input (if possibly ) a rezone they are accessing the site and automatically the site is accessible to the user - temporary if possible ,so an admin can receive a request to permanently categorize ;

6 months of Cloud WSG reporting

In order to manage internet usage,  it would be great if we could have 6 months of reporting data. The customer (Informa Group PLC) has requested for this feature.

We are looking to create a report that would identify the volume of emails that are being manually reviewed each day. Our department reviews spam for all employees and we would like a report that shows how many emails we manually review in a given period of time (day, week, month). How many of those were dropped, how many were released, and a total number.

Using the ESG v7.6.7. These things are killing us and most are coming from .us domains,. not fedex.com and have been coming in for a week.

Has anyone had success with writing  DLP rule to stop these? The only real commonality we've seen is that they almost all have "Manager" as in

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Since "Manager" is not part of the email address, is there a way to write a DLP rule to catch these?

Websense not logging from Network Agent, only logging from NetScreen integration

We have WebSense 7.7.3 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit), Network Agent on seperate Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit).

In Real Time Monitor and in reports, only HTTP traffic is logged.

Network Agent running on seperate server, and set to generate debug log, and is seeing all traffic (HTTP, HTTPS, POP3 etc), and able to block https when policy changed to block it.. Have reinstalled Network Agent, and install checks it can connect to services on the main server OK.

Juniper SSG-140 configured to send HTTP/HTTPS requests to websense (but only blocks HTTP as per standard config).

Default policy set so all protocols are logged.

For a few days this was working fine, reports and real time monitor listed POP3, HTTPS and HTTP traffic.. The we had our scheduled microsoft patch updates which included reboots of all servers, and now we only see HTTP traffic in Real Time Monitor and in reports.. All websense services running, have rebooted both servers.. Options in websense web interface for network agent are set correct to log all traffic..

Used the testlogserver, and its only displaying HTTP traffic (with a log source of enhanced log), if I stop the network agent service, then testlogserver displays HTTP and HTTPS traffic (with a log source of integrated)

Any ideas on what we need to check? Seems something is wrong with the filtering service?

Websense Remote Filtering Install Problems

Good evening all, I've attempted to install the remote filtering component by following the directions in the technincal paper here. http://www.websense.com/content/support/library/web/v77/remote_filtering/remote_filtering.pdf

 

I've had zero luck, when I navigate to where the files should be located to create an endpoint package I get nothing.

Anyone have any ideas? 

During the install attempt, I selected custom, web security, then selected the remote filtering option.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Triton 7.7 Web Security upgrade - Log Server did not upgrade

Upgrade from 7.6 to 7.7 and the log server did not upgrade with the reset of teh system.  I am getting the IO error in web security.  

Following the troubleshooting in this article:

I have concluded that Solution II is where my problem resides.  However, Solution II isn't really a solution but more so a reason.  There is no solution for fixing it.  How do i upgrade the database to 7.7.

Dashboard Woes ...

Hello ,

I've been having Dashboard issues since the installation of Triton 7.7 (Web Filter only)

Logging is fine and everything seems to be in order , except the dashboard

everything on the dash just displays : Retrieving Data, Please Wait. ... tried waiting a while but nada. 

any ideas ?

User Being Filtered But Not Logged

I have a user that does get filtered by Websense, they actually received blocked page notices.  However, when I run an investigative report, it show the user has had no activity.  I know that there should be quite alot of activity on this user's report.  This has been going on for a couple of months now.    I am not seeing any other related issues.  The user name and their IP address are both shown in the client list.

We are on version 7.7.

Any suggestions?
